Senki Zesshou Symphogear Review

Overall Rating 6.1 out of 10 - Starts well, but then falters.

I would still recommend watching at least first half.

This show has an unusual strong beginning. Well-made introduction for the characters mixed with interesting and well thought plot twists make you want to watch more and more.

Character design is both curiously interesting and sexy at the same time, so are their personalities. Decisions they make do make sense in context of their situation and personality.

If that would have continued all the way to the end, I might have given this show 8 or at least 7.5.

However, halfway into the show, things started to get downhill. Chris went from antagonist to an ally. Red-haired dude preached to her like Jiraiya or some retiree with millions in super, who concerned with moral of the youth.

I now get why someone on MAL told me that it is annoying that Bikki just befriends anyone in this show. However, I will defend Bikki, because it was not her but Red-Haired dude who converted. Chris.

Final reveal is that Ryoko is Fine and the whole thing is just some controlled experiment, rather than a real battle with dangerous enemies, cheapens everything characters went through.

Final battle is full of plot armor. Chris and Tsubasa sacrificed their lives to stop Fine's plan but then were revived for some reason. Bikki won for no reason other than being the main character.

If first part of this show might even get 8 from me, then the finale is hardly better than 3 or 4. It is not worse than Demon Slayer so 4, I guess. Middle somewhat like 5- 6. I feel like am unduly generous of giving it 6.1, but there are many other problematic shows nowadays. This is not the worst of them, it is flawed but watchable and entertaining enough.
