Korpiklaani is the best example of folk metal. Their songs are half metal and half pleasant melodic folk tunes with violins and whistles. I think these signs go well together.
Also, I do not like when someone says that metal is somehow old or outdated. Metal is good and I will not give up on it because it is not trendy anymore. If I like it, I like it, period. Trends can go to hell.
