Analysis of Overlord Ainz Character

He does have various flaws, but none of them are fatal.

In many ways he is driven by self-preservation and desire to keep things and people he considers his.
In the Tinto Brass movie Caligula, Tiberius mentions that he became Emperor so that someone else would not become Emperor and then use this political power to kill Tiberius himself.

That is close to my and Ainz logic.

Remember that flashback scene where his future guild members saved him from some undead exterminators. He and guild members then build a stronghold for themselves, to keep themselves safe.

Ainz needs Nazarik's denizens to prevent other countries from killing or doing other bad things to him.
Because of that I disagree with people who say Ainz does not want to be an Overlord and would rather do something else.

Ainz may be self-aware enough to think that he does things some will consider bad and immoral. However, morals do not hold sway over him. He himself mentioned it when he was killing people who attacked Carne village. he does not feel guilt and discomfort for doing immoral things, so there is no reason for him to not do immoral things.

Personal self-interest is more important for him. Conquering the world will ensure his security a lot better than not conquering it. So, he pursues this path.

In the same view, obedient, subservient and implicitly loyal minions ensure security much better than anything else. After all what else could possibly guarantee your survival than someone you can easily put between you and a problem you have.

I personally would not trust protection of a 'strong person'. Such a person can easily abandon me at their whim or for any other reason they might have. It is foolish to expect someone like this to be constantly available to solve my problems.

Ainz might not be the most stereotypical fit for an Overlord role, that is he is not a stereotypical alpha leader type. However, he will not resign from it. He is not doing if for Nazarik denizens per se.

I would say that in real life leaders like that are more common than some might think. Personality like this ensures continuity, stability and rational decision making: his followers can rely on him staying true to his role as abandoning it will endanger him, he in turn can rely on his minions for protection and support of him and world around him.

I too want an army of loyal minions to throw at various problems that might arise.

With them I will be able to build a stronghold, where everything will be my way.

I want such a stronghold.

A perfect world of my own.
