A response to that.
I would not call their souls broken. More like awakened, similar to awakened beings from Claymore. They both are creatures of the abyss.
This blog is about Anime, Music and Video Games. I write reviews, analytical articles and some casual observations. I intend to instill good taste among the shit taste plebs. I also occasionally write about other topics that interest me. I am a writer and promoting my awesome book here, ask me about it.
A response to that.

I guess I can compare Nunnally to Euphy.
Anime often famous for its big eyes. However, bigness is not all there is to them.
Different shapes of the eyes and eyebrows are used to represent different personalities and temper of the characters.
Picture above is an example from the same anime and the same basic artist.
Kagami to the left is an example of tsurime eyes.
Tsukasa to the right is an example of tareme eyes.
More examples below:
Also tsurime on the left and tareme on the right.

I like the look int he eyes of the girl on two bottom pictures more than on the two top ones. This particular variant of eyes looks the most gentle, yielding and pitiful. I like it most.
People often call Europa Universalis games challenging, very hard and sometimes even completely impossible.
That is not the kind of impression these games made on me. Sure, I did face a number of challenging situations in my runs, but for the most part the game was relatively easy to play.
Thing is this while this game is indeed at times unbeatable if you simply take direct headlong approach. However, if you think outside of the box and use more roundabout way, the game actually rewards you heavily for doing so.
And in the end, you will feel super smart outwitting them all and emerging on top.
I began my very first run with playing as Switzerland, that was In Nomine expansion for EU III. I like Switzerland as a country, more on the reasons here.
After a while I fabricated claim on Wurttemberg and invaded them, however they and their allies outnumbered me, won and took one of my two provinces. With one province I was smaller than my neighbors and prospect of further conquest attempts looked grim.
While I was busy with Wurttemberg, Croatia was released, and I decided to try them instead. I did it accidently actually, I was just clicking on various countries to check them out and then loaded the save without clicking back on Switzerland, game loaded me as Croatia.
This time I did not invaded anyone; I was trying to figure out how the whole thing works. However, something 4 years in the game Hungary declared war on me, conquered the whole thing and annexed Croatia completely. Nowadays I know that it was because they have cores on the whole country, but back in the days it puzzled me.
This time I decided to try something even bigger and more remote, so that I can learn the game from the safe distance. I picked Sweden, Sweden is also a country I like. Not sure if it was the same save file I started as Swiss or entirely new one.
That was my first full run.
Norway was clearly weaker than me so conquering them was not too hard. Denmark was somewhat more challenging; I am not sure if I could conquer it all, but I took enough to form Scandinavia eventually.
I was short on money, so I used treasury slider to supplement my income, that eventually made my armies outdated and weak, but they were enough to beat Norway and Denmark.
I think I tried to fight small prices of HRE but got defeated. So, I decided to expand the other way, into Russia.
I think in first war I was actually able to defeat Russia. However, a second war they won. I did not want to give them land, so I looked at peace screen and tried to figure out how to do that. Eventually I figured I can simply give them money.
Treasury slider can produce plenty of cash so why not use it as a cheap way out of unfortunate war. Lands are something I fought hard over and do not want to give them back.
I fought many wars with Russia after that. Because treasury slider my tech was low, and my armies were weak. However, I figured out an interesting way to win regardless. When Russia fights a war with Ottomans, all their soldiers are in the south, so I can easily invade from the north and take all of their land there and take them in a peace deal.
If they peace out with Otto first and turn north, I can simply use money from treasury slider to pay them off. If they do not then I win and take their land.
By the end of the game, I managed to expand relatively far into Russia, as I mentioned I formed Scandinavia.
On my second game as Ansbach I somehow figured out alliances. Alliances pulled me in wars of my allies. I was able to occupy and take in peace deals various lands from my opponents while they were too busy fighting each other.
Other people complain about so called cascading alliances. I went the opposite way. Eventually I even developed cascading alliance doctrine of sorts where I will simply ally everyone available and then cascade into every war they start. Why solving the problem when you can simply be a problem. If it was the wrong thing to do, then France and Sweden would not have become the biggest winners of the 30 years war. Those who cascade, win.
Besides infamy is less if it is a defensive war.
At the time I still was running treasury slider on near full, so my armies were much more outdated than that of my opponents.
However, that did not prevent me from taking provinces. Eventually I conquered half of modern-day Germany.
Various apologists of Prussia style high stat army have nothing on me. As Lelouch says, 'tactics cannot beat strategy'. Why fight enemy armies when you can simply occupy their land and take them in peace when their armies are busy fighting someone else, or better yet fully perished in some distant war over something like a religion. A big brain moves.
I think I even managed to take some land from Austria while they were busy fighting Ottomans.
Then, however came Ottomans themselves. They had full tech and could crush my armies no matter how numerous I can make them. No one sizeable enough were fighting them elsewhere so I could not count on them being distracted.
Disparity between army strength was so huge that I finally noticed that something must be off. When I was fighting Russia as Scandinavia, difference was not that huge, as Russia is rather backward itself. Here however Ottos crushed my units as they were nothing.
I eventually quit and went to EU III forums for explanation to this mysterious phenomenon.
I prefer to watch several shows at the time. For example, when I watch too much of Claymore (that I actually like a lot and currently rewatching) or other gritty shows I feel overdose of grittiness and want to watch something bright and colorful like K-On to balance it out.
There are few exceptions to this rule. The show really has to engage me as much as conquering the world in EUIV for me to watch just this exclusively.
Also, Code Geass has just the right balance between beaty and grittiness.
However biggest reason for my current shows it that they are not that fun, they are not awful to just drop them, but they are not that awesome to watch them non-stop. So I watch them 1ep at a time when I feel like it.
As a standalone continuation of the previous topic. Since anime aimed at guys often has 5 different types of women. Hugely successful Girls und Panzer, Gochiusa, Madoka Magica, Sailor Moon or even more obscure Hinako Note. All of them have main cast of 5 different girls.
Why always 5 and why this works?
That is because there are 5 different types of men, who all have different way of thinking. These differences eventually translate into different outlook and approach to live, different values and different preferences in women.
I will go through them using girls from Girls und Panzer as example. However, you can reasonably easily find similar traits in girls of other shows.
I will do Miho last as her traits best fit as a conclusion.
I will start with fan favorite Yukari. She does not look like your typical sexy girl, in fact anime directly states that she is unattractive. Yet despite that there is plenty of fan art depicting her. Which means fans do find her attractive. Many of them do prefer her to other girls, even prettier ones.
She is lonely unpopular tank nerd with weird hair and complete obsession with some form of obscure hobby. In this case this hobby is tanks.
While few people nowadays are obsessed with tanks, there are many other things people often obsessed with. For example, anime. In addition to anime there are many other hobbies: video games, music (music further subdivides by genre), movies, some sports even something like fishing.
Various gamer girls or e-girls often very popular with their audience. They clearly have more fans than girls who have looks. Interest in video games can win more men than perfect body.
Metal heads, goth, artists and so on have their special appeal to a one particular type of man: a hobby enthusiast.
Most people who are heavily obsessed with one or another hobby prefer this type of girls. That is of course if there are really into it and not just joined because of friends of something like that.
They like someone like Yukari because she clearly shows unwavering commitment to her interest in tanks. Guys like it when girls can commit as they do not want girl to cheat on them.
Hobbies do divide people. Similar how national borders divide people into your countrymen and foreigners. Hobbies too divide people into those who into the same stuff as you and those who are not.
Some fandoms are more hostile than others, for example metalheads tend to hate most other music genres and detest people who listen to them, especially those who listen either pop or rap.
Every fandom is its own little world that lives by its own rules and values, that are not that same as those of the broader society around them. To fit in you have to not only understand these rules, but also to abandon the rules of a broader society.
The act to switching allegiance and renouncing all previous ones is important here.
Being with fandom and sharing its system of friends and enemies shows that girl has loyalty, commitment and selectiveness. That she both understands boundaries and respects them. That she is not just open towards everyone who comes her way.
Sure, committing to any hobby will make a girl ineligible in the eyes of other types of guys, however that is precisely the point. The hobbyists want a girl who will not be of any interest to other guys out there. They want a girl who is only for them and for no one else.
Extra thing that goes for Yukari is that she is very respectful towards Miho and really admires her ability with tanks. She always addresses her as Nishizumi-dono as if she is a daimyo. That is very humble and respectful of her.
Dedicated fans of anything also think highly of their knowledge and abilities of their chosen hobby and wish for a girl who can admire and respect that about them.
I personally like Yukari, but somewhat less than Mako.
There is a lot going for Mako actually.
First, she is very smart and can figure out how to operate a tank in seconds. I find it very endearing and relatable. I am also very smart and can figure out many things in second. So, a girl who is also like that is very desirable to me. Many other loner intellectual guys like me would also prefer a girl like her.
Second, she is a quiet loner who like to read and sleep. I very much prefer my girls to be complete loners and have no friends. Once again there are many other loner guys who also like to read various things and they will also find a girl like her relatable
Finally, she has a lot of bad things happening to her. Because of her love of sleeping, she constantly gets in trouble with hall monitors. While some might blame her for screwing up, I tend to see it as more of unreasonably strict application of rules from which Mako suffers unduly. She suffers merely because school rules are not made with night owl types in mind. Rules do not work for her and she struggles with that. That is very sympathetic in my eyes.
For me and for many other guys out their various social rules and norms simply do not work. That is we find them stupid and wrong. We believe these rules should be changed, but some other people out there disagree with that. Because we cannot change the rules to fit us, we became loners who avoid society in order to avoid complying with rules that. we hate.
Her family is dead, and she lives with her grandma who always criticizes her for some dubious reasons. That both allows to pity her for being and orphan and having to deal with noisy annoying relative. It also shows that she is somewhat masochistic and can endure poor treatment and constant verbal abuse. Since I like to abuse my girls, I find this trait of hers very appealing to me.
In general, Mako is a girl of choice for a person who was traumatized by poor treatment from his parents or bullying in school. They can sympathize with trouble Mako goes through. After all it is important that girl actually understands out sensitivities.
She is also a choice of every loner who thinks he is genius. Some of them may eventually achieve greatness.
The very same separation from broader society and its norms is achieved not through an obscure hobby, but rather through lack of social skills. This lack of social skills does appeal to me and I would think to many other guys as well.
I want to monopolize my girl as I do not want to share her with anyone else. Thus, lack of social skills is actually a desirable trait in a girl. I guess many other guys would think the same way on this one.
Mako is my favorite girl of Girls und Panzer.
I guess Saori is the most standard choice of an ordinary normal Chirstian, moral men (TMM from my previous article). The kind of guy who want to marry as fast as possible and then have a lot of kids with his wife.
Since society ponders to this kind of man a lot, they are the most outspoken about their tastes and often present them as universal to all men, which is not true.
